ISSUES FACING RANDOLPH
Schools
We need to make education a town-wide priority in Randolph. We must work collaboratively to define our mission and goals and our education department must be part of the overall vision. Our schools have faced major obstacles and financial difficulties in recent years, and working together, we have been able to alleviate some of these problems. But, there is still a long way to go. I have worked with the schools administration and the community helping to develop a long range plan that provides for wide-spread improvements in our schools. It is only by truly understanding that the foundation of any great community is a great education system that we can convince our residents and town leaders that we must put aside personal differences and work to make our schools the best they can be.
Public Safety
Every one of us is concerned about the public safety of our town. Both the Police and Fire Chiefs are requesting additional resources. We have had several incidents, some with tragic results, which clearly illustrate the need to bolster our Public Safety departments. The Police Chief had formed an Anti-gang unit that was making strides toward identifying and curtailing gang activity. He had to disband that unit due to lack of funding. It seems we read more and more articles about gang related violence, and we need to address this issue right away. The Fire Chief has had to use considerable overtime resources to provide adequate staffing for each fire shift, and additional requests for funding have been turned down at Town Meeting.
Public Safety must be and should have been a priority of our leadership. I have met several times with the Police Chief and other members of his Steering Committee to help seek out strategies to deal with these issues. We must continue to strive to give our Chiefs the resources they need to keep us all safe in our homes and on our streets.
Finance Management
We need to improve the whole process dealing with developing and managing budgets. We are still doing things they way we have for decades. Budgeting should be a collaborative process that involves all leadership members collectively rather than each group dealing with budget items in a piecemeal fashion. Better use of technology can be used to make the whole process more efficient and timely.
I would like to hear from you about what matters most to you; please contact my campaign using the contact button above and let me know what you want from your new leadership.
